A recent survey suggests that nearly half of parents in the West Midlands miss the key signs of meningitis with most thinking a rash is the key symptom to look out for. As Liz Brown, the CEO from Meningitis Now points out, a rash may not always be present and can often be a late sign of the condition. A new awareness campaign called Tackle Meningitis has therefore been launched in the hope that more parents can be educated about the symptoms to look out for, including headaches, vomiting, muscle pain, fever, cold hands and feet. As children are at greater risk, especially those under five, it is vital that parents can quickly and easily recognise the symptoms and know exactly when to seek immediate medical attention.
