This month has been Limb Loss Awareness month with support organisations encouraging amputees to increase their mobility and independence.
The campaign is aimed at helping and supporting individuals with limb loss to be active in their day to day routine. It is recognised that not all individuals will want to take part in sport but the focus is awareness of the positive physical and emotional benefits being active.
Many of our clients who have experienced limb loss initially feel that being active is not achievable or feel they are not in the right frame of mind to try to build their independence. However once the right prosthesis has been fitted and with appropriate rehabilitation, support and therapy, we have been able to help our clients build their independence and get their life back on track.
As a result, we see the benefits of campaigns such as Get Moving and are very happy to support Limb Loss Awareness month and the charities involved.
Not everyone is going to be a Paralympian, so for the majority of us it is important to pay attention to everyday activities and keep moving. This isn’t about sport...The positive benefits of staying active are well documented and we all know how important it is for a positive and healthy lifestyle, both physically and emotionally.
